Skin tags are overgrown areas of skin and connective tissue. They are usually found in areas where there is rubbing, like the armpits, neck, groin. Friction of skin moving over skin, or clothing or jewellery is a factor most of the time.

Skin tags are harmless, but can make people feel self-conscious or embarrassed and can be annoying physically. Sometimes, they can get caught on clothing or jewellery and bleed.

In my clinic, I have seen skin tags ranging from so tiny you have to look hard to find them to really quite large. If the diagnosis is uncertain, you will need to see your GP before I can treat. They may sometimes refer you to a dermatologist instead.

The proper medical name for skin tags is acrocordons.

Skin tags often run in families so you are more likely to get them if your parent(s) have/had them.

Being overweight increases the risk of skin tags because there is more likely to be friction from skin rubbing over skin or clothing. Plenty of people who are a healthy weight get them as well though.

While annoying, true skin tags are harmless. But they're often unwelcome baggage that you might want to lose. Call 07438431172 if you'd like to find out how you could get your tag's bags packed and leave you with smooth confidence-boosting skin.
